I started collecting these verses over a year ago. It was over a year ago that everything I thought I knew about my body changed. Just before that I was a yoga teacher, regularly teaching 10+ classes a week. I made a living teaching other people how to be healthy and I relished the lifestyle that came with it.
But with my diagnosis of Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in January of 2016, came the realization that my body wasn’t as strong as I thought it was, at least not from a connective tissue perspective. What I learned about my body then was that it was, quite literally, rather prone to falling apart. The bottom line for someone with Ehlers-Danlos is that your connective tissues aren’t very good at keeping things connected.
More often than not, the most courageous thing we can do when our world starts spinning around us is to drop to our knees in prayer. So in early 2016, I began a new list in my prayer journal and scribbled it with this title: Verses for Ehlers-Danlos. As I came across verses that spoke directly to my condition and my experience with it, I added them to the list. I pray through them often now, and they have helped me to remember that when things feel like they are falling apart: mentally, emotionally, or physically, God is always in control.
If you are reading this today as someone with Ehlers-Danlos, consider this my virtual fist bump to you. If not, I’m sure you’ve experienced moments in your life when you felt like things were spinning out of control. Maybe that moment is today. I invite you to read through these verses whenever you feel like things are falling apart. May they remind you that the same God who set the universe in motion is the same God that holds your life in His hands. We can cling to the truth of His word.

I’d love to hear the verses you turn to when you feel like things are falling apart. If you’ve got a minute, would you list them in the comments below so that they can encourage others who stop by this post?
Until next time, carry on warriors.

Thank you, friend! Love you and how you pour out what God pours into you. His Word has been so refreshing to my weary heart and broken body! Here are a few:
Psalm 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock [that] is higher than I.
Psalm 34: 4,7, 15
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;
Psalm 138: 3, 8
3 On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul. 8 The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O LORD, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
I love these Erica. And I love you too!
Thank you. I love this type of sharing

Oh, how I needed this list this week. Printing these verses off and going to carry them around Mayo for the next two weeks and then as we pack and move too! Excited at what’s to come, but the here and now is pretty overwhelming. XOXO Love you, lady.
Terrible that it’s taken me two months to respond to this (my bad), but beautiful that I can reread your words and see how God has been faithful during that time. Thankful you are where you are and love you too!
I needed this today! I wouldn’t say my world is falling apart right now, but I am feeling very overwhelmed and uncertain about the future. Thank you for sharing your heart and God’s Word!
Edie, so glad these verses are speaking to you! Just said a prayer for you today. May you be blessed in the uncertainty by clinging to God’s faithfulness.
The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.
This is one of my reminders that the Lord fights for us . This verse is helping me through a very difficult time in my life .
Tara, I love that verse. It hangs over my head on my back porch as I sit for my quiet time in the morning. Grateful that it saw you through a challenging season.
II Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Fear thou not; for I am with : Be not dismayed, for I am thy God: I will strengthen ; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will hold the up with the right hand of my righteousness.
What shall we say then to these thing? If God be for us, who can be against us?
I John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.
Those are good ones, Tracey! Thanks for sharing here!
Awesome verses 🙂 One of my favorites is “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2
Olivia, yes! I love that this verse acknowledges that being overwhelmed is totally a thing and that Jesus is the answer for it.
Although your original post was written several years ago, I stumbled across it this morning as I was searching for verses of encouragement. Your story and the verses you shared were just what I needed this morning. Here is one of my go to passages whenever I am anxious about something…the entire passage is Matthew 6:25-34, but I’m just going to share key verses:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear…Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?…But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
These are words spoken by Jesus himself. I hope you will find encouragement in these verses as much as I do.
Thank you for sharing these verses here, Steph!
