I started collecting these verses over a year ago. It was over a year ago that everything I thought I knew about my body changed. Just before that I was a fitness instructor, regularly teaching 10+ classes a week. I made a living teaching other people how to be healthy and I relished the lifestyle that came with it.
But with my diagnosis of Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in January of 2016, came the realization that my body wasn’t as strong as I thought it was, at least not from a connective tissue perspective. What I learned about my body then was that it was, quite literally, rather prone to falling apart. The bottom line for someone with Ehlers-Danlos is that your connective tissues aren’t very good at keeping things connected.
More often than not, the most courageous thing we can do when our world starts spinning around us is to drop to our knees in prayer. So in early 2016, I began a new list in my prayer journal and scribbled it with this title: Verses for Ehlers-Danlos. As I came across verses that spoke directly to my condition and my experience with it, I added them to the list. I pray through them often now, and they have helped me to remember that when things feel like they are falling apart: mentally, emotionally, or physically, God is always in control.
If you are reading this today as someone with Ehlers-Danlos, consider this my virtual fist bump to you. If you don’t have a threatening medical diagnosis, I’m sure you’ve experienced moments in your life when you felt like things were spinning out of control. Maybe that moment is today. I invite you to read through these verses whenever you feel like things are falling apart. May they remind you that the same God who set the universe in motion is the same God that holds your life in His hands. We can cling to the truth of His word.

Oh, how I needed this list this week. Printing these verses off and going to carry them around Mayo for the next two weeks and then as we pack and move too! Excited at what’s to come, but the here and now is pretty overwhelming. XOXO Love you, lady.
Terrible that it’s taken me two months to respond to this (my bad), but beautiful that I can reread your words and see how God has been faithful during that time. Thankful you are where you are and love you too!

Olivia, yes! I love that this verse acknowledges that being overwhelmed is totally a thing and that Jesus is the answer for it.
Th
Although your original post was written several years ago, I stumbled across it this morning as I was searching for verses of encouragement. Your story and the verses you shared were just what I needed this morning. Here is one of my go to passages whenever I am anxious about something…the entire passage is Matthew 6:25-34, but I’m just going to share key verses:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear…Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?…But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
These are words spoken by Jesus himself. I hope you will find encouragement in these verses as much as I do.
Thank you for sharing these verses here, Steph!
Thank you for all of these. These are exactly what I needed. With thing going up and down in my life with on and off panic attacks and Anxiety. These are of great comfort. Thank you.
Hi Sheresa! I am so glad these are helpful. Hugs to you!
