Live with Courage

  • This was an unknown we weren't ready for. My father-in-law passed away unexpectantly on Sunday morning. We are comforted knowing that God is never surprised by the things that take us by surprise, but this one hurts.
.
I play with words every day, but there are no words at the moment to adequately describe his influence on and love over my life. He ignored the "in-law" misnomer and simply referred to me as his daughter. He saw the needs of others and quietly went about filling them. My husband does the same thing, and I know he learned it from his dad. A constant cheerleader and friend, we relied on his calm presence for wisdom, support, and guidance. There wasn't a day that went by when we didn't see or talk to him. He was loved and cherished by so many and he will be deeply missed. Please keep my husband and his sweet family in your prayers as we remember one of our greatest blessings.
.
We rejoice that he is walking with Jesus at this very moment, and I look to the day when I will see him again. Love you Dad D.
  • If having an incurable genetic disorder has taught me anything, it’s that we can’t afford the luxury of waiting for all the pieces to fit perfectly. Life will move right along and we might miss the sweetest parts of it if we aren’t willing to get our hands dirty.
.
Every day, you and I wake up with things that are broken, imperfect, and ugly. If we trust Him, God promises to transform it all. He’s not just working on the broken things around us, He’s also working on the broken things in our hearts. Day after day, baby step after baby step, one divine brush stroke after another, He is redeeming and refining every detail of our story.
.
Take the risk this week. Say the prayers. Step into the broken. Give all your imperfect things to God and trust Him to work. He’s waiting to bring you joy.

  • The older I get, the harder it is to adjust to the time change. Whew boy did I need some coffee to put two feet on the floor this morning! But it's not raining today so I'll take that as a win! 🎉
.
Wishing you a Monday filled with caffeine and sunshine ☕☀️

  • Several years ago, I started the tradition of praying for everyone who wished me a happy birthday. I am living proof that prayer changes things. I am celebrating my 42nd birthday because of the goodness of God + so many of your prayers lifted up for me a few years ago when the doctors weren't sure if I would survive another surgery. So, I don't take the privilege of praying for you lightly.
.
Thank you for taking a moment to wish me a happy birthday. You have made me feel so loved. I don't know what you are carrying today or what burdens might be filling your heart, but I am lifting those unspoken things up in prayer for you. There are a million things going on in the world that would threaten to convince us otherwise, but God is still good, and I celebrate that truth today as I have been blessed to see another trip around the sun. I am praying that you would tangibly feel the goodness of God in your day today. He loves you so, as do I.
.
Life is so precious. Go live it up.

  • Fun fact: when I was in Paris my friend and I walked around the Louvre for an entire afternoon because we couldn't find the entrance. Came back the next day and got lucky. It's on the other side of that triangle on the left 🤷
  • 📣I want to send you a free book!

My second Bible study, Determined: Living Like Jesus in Every Moment, a six-week study of Luke, will be published by Abingdon Press on April 2nd. I wrote it for the woman who wants to intimately connect with a Savior who remained laser-focused on His mission to love the world. She also wants to know exactly how to spend her time to be a force for God’s good. She wants to live, determined. Just like Jesus did.
.
I'd love to have your help in spreading the word if you have the bandwidth for it. Every launch team member will receive a physical copy of the Determined participant workbook + a custom leather bracelet designed by my good friends at @designedforjoy (a company committed to providing transitional living wage jobs for women in vulnerable situations). And there will be a few more surprise goodies in store as well...because I love surprises!
.
Will you join me in spreading the word about the life and ministry of Jesus? Applications are open through Feb 28th. Hit the link in my bio to apply for the Determined study launch team. Yay!
