Coming Soon: A Resource for Preventing Ministry Burnout

Whew what a week! Norovirus hit the Dixon household and let me tell you – you haven’t lived until you’ve stopped at every bathroom on the way home from a hockey tournament in DC. All is well now…the boys didn’t get it, only me. Shoutout to my doctor who called in a Zofran prescription for me as we were travelling home, and Tom and Thomas who are the absolute best caregivers.

My appetite is finally coming back and I’m sipping coffee looking outside my window watching the birds argue with a squirrel. I wish you could see them:)

I also wanted to share a sneak peek of something with you that I’ve been working on for ministry leaders and volunteers. Ministry is a beautiful calling, but it can also drain us. A little more fatigue here, a bit of irritability there, sprinkle in a creeping loss of joy and you’re on your way to burnout.

Burnout doesn’t usually shout; it whispers.

Sometimes, in all the busyness, we forget that our well-being matters to God just as much as our calling does.

So I’m writing a workbook on avoiding burnout in ministry. Because taking care of yourself in ministry isn’t selfish; it’s a way to honor God by nurturing the vessel He’s chosen to work through—you.

If this hits home, what I want to tell you today is this: take a few moments to intentionally rest today. Even if it’s just five minutes. Rest is a divine gift, a sacred thread woven right into the fabric of our lives by God Himself. Throughout Scripture, God’s heart for rest and renewal is unmistakable. It’s a rhythm He lovingly invites us into—a steady cadence designed not to slow us down but to sustain us.

And I would encourage you to sit with Psalm 23 today because it paints this beautiful, tender image of God’s care: “He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul” (Psalm 23:2-3). Our Shepherd, who knows each burden we shoulder, leads us gently to places of peace and refreshment. His presence, like those still waters, calms our spirits, offering renewal for the journey ahead.

I’m going to keep recovering, resting, and writing today. And I’ll let you know as soon as the workbook is available. But in the meantime, I’d love to know this: what would you tell a friend in ministry struggling with burnout? Comment below and let me know.

Stay safe and warm. And wash your hands;)

I’m rooting for you always.
