Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. – Psalm 119:105
When life becomes overwhelming, the journey ahead can feel daunting, even impossible. We long for clear direction and a guaranteed outcome, but often, all we see is the next step. It is in these moments that God invites us to trust Him with a simple truth: small steps, taken in faith, can lead to big things.
Psalm 119:105 gives us a beautiful picture of this truth: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Notice that the verse doesn’t say God’s Word is a floodlight that illuminates the entire journey. Instead, it’s described as a lamp for our feet—a tool that shows just enough light for the next step. This imagery teaches us to rely on God’s guidance one step at a time.
In tough seasons, it’s easy to feel paralyzed by fear, uncertainty, or the sheer weight of our circumstances. We want to see the whole picture before we move forward. Yet, faith doesn’t work that way. Faith is about trusting God even when the way is unclear. It’s about taking that next small step, even if it feels insignificant, believing that God is with us and will guide us each step of the way.
Throughout Scripture, we see examples of individuals who demonstrated this kind of faith. Think of Noah, who built the ark despite never having seen rain. Or Abraham, who left his homeland for an unknown destination simply because God told him to go. They didn’t have the full picture; they only had God’s promise. And with each small, obedient step, God’s greater plan unfolded.
Your tough season might look like a difficult diagnosis, a broken relationship, a lost job, or the weight of an uncertain future. Whatever it is, remember that God is not asking you to figure out the entire path forward. He’s simply asking you to trust Him with the next step. That step could be spending time in prayer, reaching out to a friend, or simply getting out of bed and facing the day. It may seem small, but in God’s economy, small steps taken in faith lead to big transformations.
The beauty of trusting God with each step is that He uses these moments to grow our faith. Each step becomes a testimony of His faithfulness. When we look back, we see how far He has brought us and how He has been with us all along, guiding our feet and lighting our path.
So, if you find yourself stuck, unable to see the way forward, ask God for the courage to take that next step. Don’t worry about tomorrow or the distant future—just focus on today. Trust that God’s Word is enough to light your way, that His presence is enough to sustain you, and that His promises are enough to hold onto.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being a light to my path, even when I can’t see the whole journey. Help me to trust You with each small step I take. Give me the faith to move forward, knowing that You are with me and that You have a plan for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Think about one small step you can take today to move forward in faith. Write it down and pray for God’s guidance and strength to take it, trusting Him with whatever comes next.
